There is a tweak in the ObamaCare bill that dates back to 2013.
The Office of Personnel Management, under the Obama administration, decided to grant what is often described as an exemption under the ‘Affordable Care Act’ allowing lawmakers and their staff to keep getting a government subsidy for health care.
A special law made Congress categorize as a small business, allowing lawmakers and their aides to get government payments as an employer contribution through the exchange. Without that, they would have had to get on the individual exchange which prohibits an employer contribution.
In other words, the people pay for it through taxation.
These same Republicans who voted ‘nay’ have criticized this addition to the law for years.
Rep. Ron DeSantis, (R-FL), said, “I think the president would be absolutely within his rights to cancel the Obama rule that conferred this subsidy on Congress.”
DeSantis said. “I applaud the president for raising this issue and I think if he moves swiftly on it, I think you’d see a lot of these members and senators would want to work to repeal ObamaCare very quickly.”
DeSantis also said, “Other Americans who are in these exchanges are not getting employer subsidies—it’s illegal and yet somehow Congress gets a work-around.”
He personally declines the ‘subsidy’. I guess he has the decency to not take what is not rightfully his.
A good lesson could be taught here. If the Politician’s healthcare is not good enough, pass a law that you can live with because that’s what the people live with.
This is something President Trump can do. It is up to him. He has the power to put the Congress on the same crap the people are on. I say, “Go for it President Trump.”
